I loved this helmet as a kid (the Bauer 4500), but it seems that after puberty it never really fit my head properly anymore. Had the round Yofa

Ask me anything about the Marsblade R1
Miller55 replied to PetterErlandsson's topic in Roller Hockey Equipment
UPS says mine will be in tomorrow. Can't wait. Hey @215BroadStBullies610 is the alloy blue or grey? Looks like a silver/grey from your pics, but I was under the impression it would be blue. If it's grey that would be awesome. If i like them I was planning on having the blue powder coated to grey or black, so that would save me some hassle if they're already grey. -
They can be adjusted using the bolt, so there is no one answer, but from my understanding, there is only a single radius on the O1 because there is only that one bolt, so however much the toe can move is how much the heel can. I could be wrong about this, but that's my understanding. The inserts on the R1 replace that bolt

Are you in the US? If so, where'd you pick those up?

I was honestly asking superficially, just about the plastic outer
-
Often they do, but I posted this while the NHL was still not going and it seemed like most of their stock dried up due to the pandemic shutdowns. In case anyone was wondering, they are Natalie Spooner pro stocks and they're E4, a bit taller than retail (maybe 2 inches) and 65 flex.

True XC9 gloves vs. Warrior QRL Pro?
Miller55 replied to MrBrownstone's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I am not a fan of the previous XC9. Considered and tried on, they were not what I'd refer to as a snug fitting glove. I have worn ORL Pros and I found them to be really comfortable (I'm pretty much a 4roll guy through and through, and those were my intro to a snug glove with a flex cuff, and they were definitely impressive). My criticism of the ORL Pro was the protection. I definitely did not feel that they were sufficient, and I did not want to keep them as I was concerned I would end up with an injury if I kept playing in them. There are gaps in protection and I took sticks, the foam itself is super light so its comfortable, but it is light, and I felt impacts more than I wanted to. They are comfy and really mobile though. I have a pair of pro stock Alphas which are a lot better in the protection dept. I have heard that custom Coverts are the best bet for someone who wants a QRL Pro, as they have the same padding layout on the backhand (unlike the QREdge, which is much less mobile) but I have heard that the padding is better, although I cant say from experience, but the Alpha pro stock is a bit better. The 2020 XC9 look like modernized 4rolls. The breaks are bizarre though. I like that they put in the easton tabs -
I was just kidding. I'm selling a pair of gx9500 now lol, great gloves. Pat could definitely do it. He told me it's too much work and they don't get enough of the goatskin to do full gloves, just palms. He said they won't even do gussets. Obviously his first priority is all the pros who send him work, so once that's done there's very little time for everything else

Anybody play around Phoenix area? Might be moving there soon, would love to find out if there's any pickup or league play in the area
-
Uh... Ok. I just said I don't see the advantage of the 9s over the 7s, and then you tried to point out a list of differences, as if the 9s are better. I responded that those aren't major considerations for me, and then you decided to defend your right to have an opinion... Lol
-
Indeed. The way I look at it is that they're not really Eagle anymore. The only problem is that there is now nobody who will actually make super custom gloves. Maybe @Krev will step up
-
Thanks. I wore the only rbk ribcores at one point directly after the injury, but they were a drop too shallow for me. No lace bite or anything, but not deep enough. Not sure if these are different, I think they're base on the rbz?
-
Agree with this. Especially when you consider it compared to the other big brand offerings at that price point. And especially for parents with growing kids and teens
-
I understand there are differences. Carbon vs fiberglass is the only one that is significant to me. I prefer clarino liner but I'm not particular and I actually prefer the felt tongue on the 7s anyway. Don't care about the steel, so there's not much reason to spend the extra 200. Again, this is without trying them on. I'll try them both on next week and see, maybe there are intangibles to the fit, feel and comfort. But on paper there's not much difference to me

Do you know something or is this just an assumption? Because I contacted Eagle/Vaughan and they said they do not make leather gloves and do not even do goatskin palms anymore. They claimed they do not have access to the material anymore (Pittard's goat) which is complete BS. Ken at CPR told me that they still get it, but they reserve it only for palms. I contacted Pittard's myself (I work as a bookbinder and deal with a lot of leather accounts) and they said they still sell it, and the price hasn't gone up in a while even, so I'm not sure what they're on about at Eagle. Anyway, it's probably not cost effective for them to make leather gloves, and maybe one day they'll do a small run, but meanwhile, my L29 4rolls are pretty close to 3 rolls already.

Yup, heard about this. Issues with the gluing, tendon guards, eyelets, rivets (which are actually common for monocoque boots from what I understand). I just saw on Reddit some guy posted his size 13.5 custom Trues that are so shallow that there's a space on both sides of the tongue where you can see his sock all the way. It's not even close. My only experience was with pro returns, which I thought were amazingly comfortable, but ended up selling to someone because they were RORs skates and he wanted them so bad. I paid 350 and told him that if he covers the cost of TF9s for me I'll give them to him. That was before I heard about the rebate too lol. I'm gonna go get fitted for then next week at Pure and see. Although, doesn't really seem like there's much of an advantage of the 9s over the 7s at this point. I'm not a drug dealer so 20 grams means nothing to me

Yup, QC is the name of the game here for True. I know a few shops who are not stocking the retails and stopped doing fittings for custom Trues even, just because of how many build issues there were. I'm expecting the retails not to have that issue, but if this first batch winds up not being great, they might have a very tough time overcoming that reputation. They're gonna end up like Easton
-
I scheduled a Graf fitting at some shop in the island, and found another random shop that has True retails in stock, so I'll probably get out there some time next week. Looking forward actually. Not thrilled about having to spend more money, but I've kinda reached the point where I just want to play hockey without having to think about anything. Also arranged with my brother's roommate to try on his makos. I'll have to dig through that monster thread to find baking instructions. He only has a regular oven

If you look on CPR Instagram or Twitter you can get a pretty good idea of how things work. Executing it professionally is a different thing, but I've looked through it before and I got a good idea from the pictures

Interesting. Yeah, the Supremes were a great fit. All of the sudden it started killing my ankle. I thought maybe I was tying them too tight, so I loosened up. Nothing. Swapped the super stiff tongue out for a different one, still hurts. Maybe they're too stiff? But I don't feel like my mobility is limited and I weigh 200 lbs, these aren't my first skates. Idk, but I'm willing to try anything. I'm definitely not jumping at any false ideas of function, I play adult leagues and pickup and am all about comfort. Hell, I wear slippers to work more often than I'd like to admit lol. These were great and the past few skates have been hell. No bruising, blistering or weird bumps. Skated unlaced and I still felt it. Punched out the painful area etc. I'm just wondering if there is an inherent benefit to a lower cut skate or a monocoque, very form fitting boot regarding ankle comfort. And I guess in also wondering if the comfort is better, does it come at the expense of something else (besides stiffness). Sorry I wasn't so clear in my initial post
-
I'll definitely give it a go. Dilemma for me is that I'd like to try the Grafs and the Trues in one shot, but they're in two different shops. Might be worth the extra drive. Maybe I'll take one of my kids and my wife won't mind me being out a while Sunday trying on skates... Ha Are they very wide? 707 were a wide cut. What about 755 Pros. Do you know anything about them?
-
Aha. I'll have to try some on, but I don't think that will work. I think that the Supreme ankles might even be too loose and I'm just tying them too tight. Who knows. Planning to go Sunday and try on some TF7s and 9s and my brother's roommate told me he has a pair of mako 2 size 9R that he basically never used. I haven't used that style boot ever, but I'm willing to make the jump at this point. I've got too much other stuff to deal with for my ankle to hurt from playing hockey. I was always a stickler for stiffer and higher boots, but it doesn't seem worth it anymore.
-
Those were the ones made to wear an ankle brace inside the boot? I don't wear a brace, nor do I feel I need one. Would they work ok without the brace (I don't have sorry thick ankles, fairly narrow actually). My shop did say they have a pair on my size, so maybe I'll go try them on when I have some time to get out there. Thanks for the suggestion. How would this affect the ankle area? I thought the difference between D and EE is in the forefoot only

Ask me anything about the Marsblade R1
Miller55 replied to PetterErlandsson's topic in Roller Hockey Equipment
Yup, I just saw that. Confirmed that they shipped size L. -
That's interesting. I have used very stiff top of the line skates for a long time. For some reason though, the 2S Pros have been killing me. The fit is fine, it's just the nature of the boot. I pinched out a few pressure spots. It just started out of nowhere. I have worn these skates for a few months already without issue and I wore 1Ss Andrew total one nxgs without issue. These were great and all of the sudden the pressure has become unbearable. It's only on the one for right where the injury was. I don't think I tweaked it. I put on an old pair of tours the other day, super soft and they felt much better around that spot. They were very low cut and obviously very broken in. I'm hoping to go try on the TF9s this weekend and see if they're better. Bizarre
