Try the traditional felt tongue. My buddy also felt that the t guard felt tongue have him pressure points bc of how hard the t guard is bf regular felt only. The new lightweight tongues seem pretty thin and personally I prefer a beefy tongue.

Yes, they fit totally diff when baked. Find a shop that will let u bake them and try it on. Or an online retailer that will let you return skates even if baked. Or maybe get the tf7s rather than tf9s if you're not quite convinced. I think one of the reasons true is having this promo right now is to get people to try their skates that are hesitant. I'm confident (and I'm sure they are) that a lot of people will find them one of the most comfortable fitting skates they have worn.

To avoid having to bake a number of diff skates for consumers to try on, the shop should be trained and educated as much as possible in sizing up the customer to the point where they know what length and width the customer needs. If that's done the chances of the skates not fitting or feeling right is drastically reduced. It's not different than sizing up any other retail brand. The only diff is with trues you need to tell the customer it's going to feel ten times better baked. Trues price point is also at a level where I think most people would risk trying them out. End of the day were wasting too much time here talking about whether their retail skates will flourish or not. Why don't we leave that problem to true, and keep this thread more educational for people interested in the skates.

Wonder if there's something in the paperwork saying this much at least. That the skate must be baked for proper fit. I find big box stores are generally pretty bad with true in general, even at the custom level.
-
Even the as3? It's supposed to be less stiff. But I don't remember if it's stiffer than the as1. The as1 was pretty stiff.
-
I think the way they are pressed on is why they look diff/set diff. Just like how hand pressed copper rivets will look different than the coppers on the retails which are done by machine.
-
I don't know how some people have such a large discrepancy between shoe and slate sizes. Anything more than 2.5 size diff to me is unthinkable.
-
I'd imagine the nylon/plastic is less likely to get rusted and seize but wonder how impact durability is... I guess it's a simple swap of the part anyways if it does break.
-
Can u post pics of the two diff versions.

They're rarer than the big brands in terms of people having them but not in availability. Mainly bc they only offered customs prior to the tf7/9. The % of people having custom skates regardless of the brand is rare in itself.

Not sure how true does it but building a skate from the inside out, they have to get the last our somewhere when the end product is done. I'm guessing they have to heat up the skate and get the last out which makes the boot no longer conformed to the shape of the buyers foot, but is easily remedied by proper (and mandatory) baking.

Standing. Knees and feet completely misaligned, ankles bent inward and outward, and they are moving around etc etc.

Does Bauer and CCM etc give shops free skate ovens? I'm legitimately asking. Bauer ccm and true all make shops pay for their scanners don't they? I know Bauer does and it's a ridiculous price. You'd think something like a scanner should be loaned out to the shop free of charge since it's something that is required in custom orders.

I remember this. Solid stuff. Also props on that holder and steel setup, you know, since it's the same as mine 🙂

Also on the note on tongues. After I heat mold my tries, I actually reheat the tongues so they form back to pre mould. I do this so it needs up the tongues again as I don't like the creases that are formed from the bake. I know it'll eventually break in and crease but I like them stock and firm to start.

Not sure how much you've been following vh or true skates but these skates aren't like any other off the shelf skates. You HAVE to bake them. Even the custom skates which are made for your feet, you HAVE to bake them otherwise they don't even feel like they were made for your feet. The small mom and pop shops are the only ones id go to for fittings. Big box stores, nope. I can also vouch for bsharp. I follow them on IG and heard great things from them from buddies in Ottawa.

You can't expect to have them fit properly without baking them. Heel lock on Trues feel diff than other skates. From my experience the heel lock on other skates feet like ur heel is literally jammed up against the heel pocket. Probably bc ccm and Bauer skates don't have much of an ergo heel pocket vs trues. True skates have a pretty deep heel pocket that actually allows more flexion at the ankle and knees. It's a diff feel, to the point where some ppl might feel that they aren't getting heel lock with trues. If you can't tell which size to get I personally would go for the smaller of the two. My preference is to go as small as I can with out the toes jamming. You can always take the footbeds our and stand on them and see how your feet line up on them. Should give you a good indication of the length.

Kinda how one piece sticks actually don't shoot harder than wooden sticks. The just feel so much better (depending who you ask). How quick it pops off the blade is definitely different though, but shit speeds don't seem to really matter. Ie, Al McInnes in this year's all star comp.

What I find interesting is that generally shots may not be much faster between diff kick points but the feel makes you think otherwise. I've never tested it but with mid high kicks like Supremes I feel so much lag and with the softer blades it just feels like it's going slower due to the lag. It with low kick and stiffer blades it makes u feel like the puck is flying off the blade (for me at least)

initial thoughts CCM Super Tacks Girdle Initial Thoughts
Sniper9 replied to JR Boucicaut's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Not sure about the sizing / fit of the super tacks vs jetspeed girdle but I found that the jetspeed in medium was a touch bigger than I'd like so a small would've been perfect. With medium I had to cinch the belt quite a bit. For the record I wear a small in the qredge pant, and medium in the ft1 pants. I also wore a small in the one95 and have yet to wear a vapor pant. The girdle itself feels good and petty mobile UNTIL I put the shell on. After the shell was on it felt as if the shell itself restricted movement, so I went back to traditional pants. It's too bad because I really wanted to like the girdle as I like a more snug contour fit overall but it just felt too foreign. I must say I really like the fit and protection level of the ft1, but that's for a different thread. -
Ya never understood why they just didn't have a few holes vs slots. Some visors still have a number of diff holes but it's very rare. But regardless of holes or slots, you can still tilt it if it's not really cranked down. Only thing the holes are better for imo are lining up a each side easier, and not having the visor move and and out if it's not right. Last visors I've mounted though, I've used some blue loctite.

If you take your time and load every shot it may not be much diff. But if you're wanting to get a shot off in diff positions where you may not be able to take your time and load the stick completely, that's probably where the flex and kick point will play a bigger role. Or off balance shots with a 100 flex vs 85
-
I can see this being bc the knob is not actually part of the stick as one piece. It's added on and has diff properties as the actual stick. The feel may not feel drastically different but for those who are keen, I can see it feeling diff. Whether the ACTUAL flex rating changes could be a different story though.

What's going on here? What kind of spacer is that? I see he used the stock helmet mounts to mount the spacer on. But then it also looks like his Oakley aviator visor has custom drilled holes. Doesn't even look like the visor has the stock holes in them.

Retails are likely made in China. People knock on things made in China and although there are some pretty shitty quality things coming from China, or dollar store stuff, the products coming from China from big names have pretty good QC. I would imagine the retails look way better in terms of fit and finish. From pics I've seen it already looks way better in terms of stitching, lack of glue residue, etc. Attention to detail is definitely something the Chinese are very good at... And reputation. All those factories probably fighting to get the contract to make products for diff companies.
