Part of the problem is the Mako came out when Easton was going through a pretty steep decline in popularity. If Bauer re-released the Mako II with an Edge holder, new graphics, and called it the UltraBoomADVSonicLite with a superdynaflex tendon guard it would probably fly off the shelves at levels the Mako never came close to.

I always thought those zippers were for those who tie their skates before putting their pants on.

Interesting he uses medical analogies to describe the condition of the company when he took over only to call the new product "code."

I wish we would've made a video for this..... Maybe next time I'll ask someone to record something. We had a bunch of high-level players together on the ice today for a few hours and decided after the end of our scrimmage we would do shooting drills. Compared sticks were the Bauer Vapor Flylite, Bauer Ultrasonic, and Bauer Nexus 2N Pro vs the CCM FT3 Pro, CCM Trigger 4 Pro, and CCM AS2 Pro. The FT3 Pro was absolutely the crowd favorite and took the number one spot for 90% of the players. The second was a tie for the Bauer Flylite and Nexus. Coming in next was the Trigger 4 Pro, then the AS2 Pro followed by the Ultrasonic in the last place. What was shocking was just how much players disliked the Ultrasonic. They felt the release was slow, shots didn't have the same power, and overall it required more work and effort than other sticks that were much more forgiving. I can't disagree with them. I personally didn't like the stick as it felt much stiffer than the flex rating due to the new change in the kick point. The blade also didn't feel very lively compared to others. I always disliked the more recent Supreme sticks blade and weight balance. I figured this new update would maybe redeem the Supreme line back to its old glory. Unfortunately, the data says otherwise. Anyway. Sitting at the bar having a drink waiting for the games to start so I figured I would not this all down while it's still fresh in my mind.

That's a really interesting video because he's showing you the inner shell of the skate. I was wrong, I thought True was making that using two pieces fused together. That's what Bauer is doing with the Ultrasonic. CCM is doing the same as True and making it out of one piece also. Any seams could be the layering of other pieces or the way the composite fabric is cut. It's made with a cut out pattern just like any other garment and the piece is laid out in the mold to form the shell. If CCM is using a pattern where two ends have to be folded onto each other, there could be a seam like appearance. When it comes down to it, all theese "one piece" boots are using the same design concept - create a solid shell that makes the Quarter and outsole one piece and eliminates the midsole. That creates stiffness and stability through the heel and the bottom of the skate. Both Bauer and True are even using the same term - "unibody". How they layer materials on that shell vaires from skate to skate, but the one piece shell remains the same through all of them. I believe the difference between the Ultrasonic and the True/CCM is that Bauer is making that shell in two pieces. They are making the composite quarter like they have for pretty much any skate for years. Then they are making a composite heel and outsole piece and fusing them together in a mold using resin. It's one complete shell made of two pieces. It's not the old process where they would make a composite shell and then attach the midsole and outsole to it using glue and nails. That's how they are making the 3S Pro - same two pieces, but made using the old method.

Yes, sizing is pretty similar. If you are a 6.0D Supreme then you should go with the same with TRUE. No difference in TRUE between junior and senior skates.

The change in kick point makes the AS2 Pro feel stiffer as compared to the Ribcor and Jetspeed models. For example, if you compared a 75 flex in both the AS2 Pro would feel more rigid. Both have stiff blades but the AS2 Pro is stiffer. The dampening of the Jetspeed provides a little more feedback as the AS2 is very pingy.

Depends on how many people are crying for it. The magnification of the internet doesn't necessarily mean there is a sufficient business case to move forward.

Yep, CTC also owns National Sports. If I were to take a wild guess, I would bet that those four retailers sell in excess of 70% of all hockey gear in Canada. The Source for Sports, PIA, Hockey Supremacy, and smaller shops would make up the rest. I'm pulling those numbers out of my ass, but I would wager that I'm not far off.

That can change over time with the right team making the product decisions. If you're Canadian Tire, SportChek & ProHockeyLife, and your in house brand can provide you with product to compete up and down the lineup vs. the inventory you buy from CCM/Bauer/etc, it's a huge advantage. They'll having staying power and supply chain advantages, at least for like 3/4s of the Canadian market, that should keep them afloat and relevant for years. I don't think they should be thought of as a small player these days - they have a huge financial backing and competitive advantage by being the house brand for CTC corp now. They just need to hire the right team.

Guys stop banging your heads on the wall, i'm saying the quality has gone down yet the prices keep going to ridiculous hights Vapor 10's = 6 Years one95's = 6 Years Mx3 = 4 Years In 16 years of Bauer, I repaired 1 eyelet 1S's = 2 years I repaired them 3 times, once within 1st year, lacing system... boot unstitching everywhere, i think that after 18 years in there product, im a little qualified to comment on the quality of the product over the years... I play less and less competitive, take better care of my gear over the years yet I get less life out of em...

Yep, agreed with that part. I was more commenting on the second half. That said, if you want to still use that analogy, a test drive is like putting the skates on and walking around the store. You never really get a chance to REALLY see what it can do until you're off the lot (usually). Anyway, let's move on. This thread has badly devolved. I know there is validity in comparing skate models but it definitely feels like we're just going in circles, here.

You can drive the car before purchasing so a little different.

Most dealerships aren't going to allow you to return a car post-purchase, unless it falls under your local lemon laws. "I changed my mind" isn't going to get you anywhere.

I've been in the Pro Shop in a 4 rink building since 2001. Locally beer leaguers are tape, sharpening and a only if necessary new stick types. Not universal for all areas of course. I do agree BLers don't care about latest newest gear when it's time for the replacement purchase of totally dead gear.

William Nylander wears a wicked tight/short girdle. Could be that you are part of the hockey fashion vanguard, and your nephew and son are stuck in the past.

Does Mylec count? Only brand to this day where you could change your PM9 to a P28 within the same shift with a quick stomp of the sneaker. Still waiting for someone to match that tech. 😆

Curiosity got the best of me so I ordered a set of MPC Freestyle wheels. Having never experienced dual pour wheels, the variation from wheel to wheel is very strange. For example, 3 of the 4 80mm wheels looks the same. One is slightly lighter in color, but not dramatically so. However, with the 76mm wheels, 2 of the 4 are noticeably lighter with one looking practically clear as though there’s no second material. Is this a manufacturing defect? Here’s a photo with the 2 lighter 76mm wheels on the top left and the 1 lighter 80mm wheel on the bottom left I’ve never gone wheel crazy, but am looking forward to the R1’s arriving even more now! Will have my standard Labeda setup, the RR Tricksters, and the MPC Freestyle to try out

there is a difference, but to me there not ground braking, just a 2020 version... This is a positive thing to me, I love that boot, my point was that I cant see how the ultrasonic has much value when you think that the flagship has lost features like the lacing systems, speed plates are gone, but the price still went up to 1150$ I just think these prices are B.S
