Bauer is bringing back the Synergy.
MyBoxersSayJoe replied to OzziesDad's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
My friend's sticks arrived. Two RH 91A's in 77 flex. He was told they're the old Synergy but with a mid-kick. Flex feels high-mid, not low. Based on where the blade meets the shaft he's guessing it's a Bauer mold, not Easton. He's guessing a prior Supreme like 2S Pro. Grip shaft with sandpaper blade. If it's worth anything the sticker on the blade says: 1061418 Easton Synergy Grip Stk-SR-77(60") -

My friend ordered two of them, when they come in I'll see if he knows what they are under the paint job. He's guessing some sort of Bauer Supreme. -
Too Fast For Novice League?
MyBoxersSayJoe replied to DuddzMcSlapper's topic in Teams, Leagues and Players
If you've advanced that much, I'd say challenge yourself and step up a division for the next season. You'll never get better playing weaker competition. -
Wow, I thought my Graf G75 Ultra Lites were feathers at 417 grams or whatever they were. Unfortunately, I had multiple break during gameplay so they got retired though having a bunch due to being inexpensive.

Beer League Fees Around North America
MyBoxersSayJoe replied to nickerjones's topic in Teams, Leagues and Players
This is interesting. I play at 3 (Ice House) and it'd definitely depend on the roster. I also believe it's one of the larger mens leagues in the country. Pre-covid they were up to 8 or 9 divisions that were packed with 8+ teams per division usually. -
learning hockey at an advanced age
MyBoxersSayJoe replied to Amazinmets73's topic in General Hockey Discussions
I was so excited to see this thread pop up! Damn, probably better on one leg than I am at this point! Once you're comfortable with it, see if you can keep the planted leg's knee bent a little more, so you can pump and control more with that leg than your lifted leg. Awesome that you're working on these finer skills. Outside edge stops look incredibly smooth and fluid. Your step over following it is nice and smooth. Hope you're doing well and please keep posting updates! Six years into this venture how do you feel about it? Are you still loving it? -
My original A6.0 got sticky as well. Sit's in my basement at the same 60-70 degrees year-round.

Do players still rock yellow laces?
MyBoxersSayJoe replied to iceman8310's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
As a person that has coached twins, it's not easy! Especially when they switch numbers occasionally just to mess with you lol -

As a Graf lover, yes. -
I agree with IPv6Freely. I work in Adobe Illustrator all day long, but unfortunately I don't have the time right now for any side stuff.

I witnessed three of our younger players on a summer team I coach attempt the Michigan during games this summer. The skill some of them have and integrate into the game is wonderful.

Ovechkin, 5 year/$9.5 million contract
MyBoxersSayJoe replied to caveman27's topic in NHL Discussions
It'll be interesting to see if he can get close to Gretzky's scoring record. He'd have to average about 30 goals per season. -
Stick flex: any downside to going lower?
MyBoxersSayJoe replied to SolarWind's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
In the '90s it was like the higher the flex, the more manly you were. Aluminum sticks, 100 flex, etc. Completely ignored flex in some search of ego or something. I think stick technology has evolved so much that you can now let the sticks do the work for you. Takes some adjustment depending on the sticks and your body type, mechanics. Over the years I've gone from nose height on skates to chin height. And I've dropped from 77 flex to flipping between 65 and 55 Gaudreau pro stocks. I'm 5'7", 145 lbs. -
Well, they avoided the sweep, but delayed the inevitable. The fact that the Islanders took Tampa to a game 7 shows how close to cup contention they were.

The Zorro? Pavel Barber has a lot of tutorials on it. It took me months to get the basic motions down, and even then, I can't do it in anything other than warm-ups. I usually have to go forward then pull back. If you want an aid in learning, try a softer wax like Sex Wax. The funny thing is that all I concentrated on in my youth was skating, skating, and skating. As an adult, I'm actually working on my hands for a change. Especially since I'm slowing down as I get older.

Not a fan of step steel black
MyBoxersSayJoe replied to bthompson1286's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I had to have mine profiled, but absolutely love them for years at this point. -
They fixed the issues of the original APX Fusion steel bubbling, warping or separating?

Favorite Skates of all time, top 5 (just for fun)
MyBoxersSayJoe replied to matix218's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
1) Bauer APX 2) Graf 703 I didn't care for anything else I've owned, including Mission Amp Flyweights, Bauer Air90's and Bauer X60 LE's. -
The Coleman and Goodrow acquisitions are working out pretty nicely. As a Devils fan, I love seeing Coleman succeed wherever he is. Heart and soul player.

I think it was on ESPN when I was a kid, but they had roller hockey, but the ends of the rink were like half-pipes. Does anyone else remember this? Is it still a thing?
-
Oof. I made the mistake of buying a Nike aluminum shaft. Black with bronze graphics. I don't know if I ever ended up using it in a game. Definitely gave it away at some point. Would have been great for home defense lol. I remember Innovative and Combat now that they're mentioned. Fisher? Was that a brand?

I think from a distance, due to the coloring scheme on the CODE V, it may very well look like the Sher-Wood COD.

I was just thinking of the boom of composite sticks and shafts I saw during my time in youth and high school hockey. What were some of the random brands breaking into the industry that you tried out? ProKennex - these were either kevlar or carbon fiber shafts but didn't have any consistency as far as flex. I think they were a tennis racket company. I'd bought more than one, some were extremely whippy, some were stiff as could be Quad Force - I'm pretty sure these were some sort of reinforced fiberglass.
