What is a toe cap in the boot?
-
Absolutely this. Plus, the fact that they are apparently spamming places with fake reviews is incredibly off putting and makes me not want to give them money.
-
[coach/dad voice] “What’s better for accuracy is Practice.” “Better” is a tricky term. What works for me might not work for you. Particularly I f you’re still developing technique, the p88 is more consistent, because it’s one smooth curve. P28 has enough different parts, that you have to learn how to use it from the heel vs toe. personally, I have trouble with the p28 keeping anything on the ice. It’s great for quickly elevating shots, but if I want to make a hard tape to tape pass, there’s a good chance it’s getting to the other player 6” or more off the ice, which isn’t helpful to anyone. Do you play with a ball? (Maybe I’m confusing your with someone else.) Shooting a ball with a p28, for me, would put it in the parking lot. It’s so open and twisty. You might be able to get some wild lateral movement, but everything is going to be waist high.

Hell of a first post there……

Ice warehouse describes Jetspeeds as a fused 2 piece. Is it the same process from years ago when they combine the shaft and blade and then just cover up the fuse point? Or is it a new process? Or, is that an incorrect description?
-
How much of your “matching existing profiles” is essentially banana-ing the brand new steel to match the old steel that was been ruined by consistent poor sharpening and other shops?
-
Does this mean all of these tapes are the same? Or does NA manufacture tape for all these companies, but the specific details are somehow different?
-
I went from 2Ss to TF7s. Bauers had a quad 0.5 on step steel. I left the the stock profiles on the TF7s (omg don't tell anyone I’m skating on stock profiles). I felt a little on my toes at first, but have totally adjusted to it. The overall forward lean of the skates really rewards you for bent knees and proper form. If I’m being lazy and “standing up” when I play, I feel less responsive overall.

VH Footwear/TRUE by Scott Van Horne
start_today replied to dsjunior1388's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Is True the only skate that says “custom” on them? That’s interesting branding. Other companies customs look more or less exactly like the retail versions, don’t they? -
I really love the ritual of taping my stick. Not like it takes any time, just feels good man.
-
Mine were wrapped this way too when I fitted them. I didn’t think before hand to doublecheck the correct process, and just assumed the store would do it correctly, since the kid who sold me skates suggested it. He was super stoked on doing it, and then still did it wrong.
-
Yeesh, 75% of the cost of a stick and doesn’t even protect the toe.

Am I looking at the wrong video? The link posted doesn’t have Kane or anyone, just the rink and the b.

My skates fit well enough pre-quarantine. I didn’t play from March 2020 through October 2020. Not only did I not play, I spent all of my time barefoot or flip flops, except for a few times a week when I tried to take up running (screw that). My skates really hurt when I came back in October, and it was only 7+ months. I didn’t wear any supportive footwear during that time, so I assume the shape of my foot change. My snowboarding boots, which have the same fit style as hockey skates, also killed my feet at first. For me, I was just patient and was able to reacclimate to both without having to rebake anything. Since you’ve rebaked them multiple time already, it might be that you just need new skates. As your whole body has to re-adapt to hockey, it might also be that any skates would be uncomfortable on your feet right now.

Wait, is that an NHL teams jersey?

I play in a league that had some sort of sponsorship deal with All Black Sticks for a few seasons. Each season, a player or two would win a free stick. The people who won these for free didn’t like them, and generally didn’t use them. This is only a sample size of six people or so, but even when people pay for them the best reviews I see are “it’s good for the money” or “I can’t tell the difference.” If you know where to look and be patient, they aren’t good for the money. These are people who bought a thing, and want to feel good about it, so they leave a good review. And for people who say things like “I don’t care, I can’t tell a difference,” these aren’t people with nuanced views from whom you want to accept advice. I’m overly cost conscious in my typical day to day life. I love a good value, and will spend extra time and energy to save money. I have literally NEVER* seen a stick from a discount supplier that is a good value and worth what you spend on it. Typically, you are getting less bang for your buck. People are charmed by the idea of getting a “good deal,” and focus more on that than whether it actually plays well relative to what you paid. *A few people on here who I really trust stand behind the Prohockeysticks.com stuff. I haven’t used or seen one in person. But, for the same $130 -$140 you are paying them, you can probably find a new prostock stick from a big name manufacture that meets your needs. I think the advantage that site offers is being able to order weird curves pretty easily. If you’re fine using a 92/88/28 curve, you should be able to find one fairly easily in the $110 - $130 range.
-
When you say “plenty of good reviews,” are these good in-depth reviews from people who know their stuff and put products through actual testing, or good reviews from average people who bought the stick, and just posting a five star review on the website?
-
I have TF7s and kept the stock profile. Since these are such different skates, I wanted to get used to how they felt before I started tinkering with multiple variables. I like how they feel, but sometimes I randomly feel a touch “over my toes.” My worry is that moving to a quad .5, which I had before and really liked, might feel like to much forward lean. Yes, I know there are lots of thing I could do to mitigate that, but then I’m just making extra alterations to get back to something that was fine to start with.

Warrior glove that fit like a vapor?

Brett Hull it and just put white out over Bauer logo and write Warrior in sharpie. Different color cuff rolls look better anyway. -

Never gonna land a sponsorship with that attitude. -
You’re like the second person in two weeks posting about replacing their decade old Easton stick. Apparently they all had some backdoor engineering to break right before the 2021 holiday season.
-
Guy I played with placed an order over the summer and had absolutely zero communication for a few months, despite trying to reach them a few ways. He actually started the process of getting his money back through his credit card, and the sticks randomly showed up at his door in September. Never any follow up from Base. So, uh, they filled an order at somepoint.

Difference Between Jetspeed Team Sticks
start_today replied to moonrockticktock's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I can give a sort of vague answer. The one ending in TJS is the Team model sold to teams, often like non-elite college and juniors programs. Build and materials is similar to the second tier of sticks. You can often find them new for $100 -$115 from second hand sellers. There’s been some debate how “low” the low kickpoint is on these; whether it’s just a ribcore with no ribs, or something not analogous to a CCM retail model. The one ending in TM4 is their 3rd tier retail stick. I don’t know if whatever page you are looking at lists materials head to head, burn I assume the TJS is “better,” but I haven’t played with both to compare them. I’ve had a few of the Jetspeed Team non-retail ones. Not sure what iterations they are, or if they even have different iterations year to year. Before Jetspeed, this option was a Tacks Team. I like them a lot. I don’t typically enjoy low kick sticks for my uncoached sloppy shooting style, but these work fine. Feel, weight, balance, and blade is on par with “upper level” sticks. You’re not getting at FT4, but you’re getting a good stick.
