I think it’s more the force you are applying to the lace, which then puts force on the eyelet. The goal is to pull sideways so the lace is going out through the eyelet with minimal contact and friction. When the is tightened, firm, consistent tension on the eyelet is not going to pull it out or unseat it. It’s the “violent” act of pulling the lose lace through the eyelet that is going to pull it out. So, pulling up or down creates that friction of the lace across the eyelet, whereas pulling out out ideally minimizes it. The goal is primarily trying to pull the loose lace through the eyelet without touching it.

Is the need for stiff skates for ankle stability due to some lingering injury, body issue, or health concern, or are the stiff skates helping with a lack of ankle strength and control? I don’t say that to call you out or something, just clarifying. If you’re covering up mechanical issues with stiff skates, you’re gonna be better off getting something softer and doing some power skating classes to develop that muscle control. But, if the stiff skates are because you’ve had had a bunch of ankle surgeries or long term foot and leg issues, people might be able to give advice for supports and fixes that have worked for them What did the profile of the old steel look like vs the new one? If it’s a radically different profile, new skates are going to feel clumsy and wrong.

It’s literally baking the skate with body weight distributed differently. It’s less drastic than punching the boot for a hot spot.

There’s a story on here of someone who had what should have been a warranty issue and they wouldn’t take it back. It was something like a puck out a while in the side of the skate. I’m not saying don’t do it, or it’s a bad option, just sharing. I think it’s the only issue I’ve seen posted on here, and you know how people love to complain……. If you want to buy CCM skates, do it! Skates have changed a lot in 30 years in terms of fit and design. Tacks today have the same name as skates from the 90s, but it’s not like there’s any actual lineage where they have more in common with 90’s heel wedge Tacks vs Vapor XXs. They all just hockey skates. Theres enough options within CCM, Bauer, and Graf, each one should have options that fit your feet. The idea of “only brand X fits my feet” is just wrong. I left out True, but with the moldability of that brand, most people find a fit there too.

They use all those made up meaningless words in the marketing materials, but never mention what the kickpoint is.

Yeah, there’s so much info about the health and sports “career” benefits of being a multi-sport athlete. Lacrosse, baseball, ballet, track, tennis, lawn darts, whatever. This feels like it’s going the opposite direction, and pigeonholing everything into hyper specific movements and actions related to one sport.

I have the Surgeon elbows, shoulders, and shinguards and like all of them. Those are all pieces of equipment I want to do their job without me noticing them, and they totally do that. It’s been a few years and they are all holding up fine. I think I got them in fall of 2019, and play 3-4 nights of adult league hockey a week.

My one tendon guard is loose on my TF7s. Is this something I can fix on my own somehow? It’s not falling off, but has some wiggle side to side that I’d like to stop before it gets problematic.

I love the water bottle holder on the side. Sometimes sticks, bag, water bottle, and a case of beer makes for some dicey moments trying to open a door. My friend is producing a bag for another niche sport, and she put a water bottle holder on it and I was like holy shit, you’re a genius.

A lot of people buy their skates too big. I suspect a lot of people buy their shoes too big. Correctly fitted skates feel “too tight” when you first put them on, especially if someone has been wearing oversized skates. They won’t fit like slippers, no matter how many people like to say that.

Doesn’t that only work if the steel and holder are “traditional” size? If someone changed to an oversized holder, you end up in the wrong place. Or, someone mentioned that correct sizing on the TF series moved them down a steel size. And, even then, it at best gets you into a situation something like “I use 272 size steel so im buying either 8.0 or 8.5,” so theres still a 50% chance you’re wrong.

Judging from the rest of the economy, there’s literally no ceiling for prices on anything, or the amount a company is willing to gouge is customers.
