Due to patent laws. Step, or any non-Bauer branded steel, for Bauer's Lightspeed Edge holder is not available in the US. There are work arounds like eBay but walking into a shop is a no go.

Don't forget the $30-50 you'll spend on profiling....

Do it. It feels awesome and holds a sharpen forever. And it looks filthy!

Just grabbed these 10% at a pro shop. One of the most comfortable pads I have put on. Edit: Just in case people can't read they are the 7092 Tacks, not the Super Tacks. Figured I'd go heavy on the elbows since when I start playing again I am going to be falling backwards. A lot.

Here are my Trues with the LS Edge holder and Step Black on them... I really hope I don't have any issues with clicking because skates don't get much sexier looking than this IMO.

Blimey, you are not far off drawing your pension. BTW I'm impressed with your progress. I started learning to play hockey one year ago when I was 53. One lad I sometimes play with is in his early seventies and has been learning for a couple of years. Sure he doesn't have the speed and agility of youth, but he does well. I doubt someone of our age could ever be a top rank player, but I'm hoping I can turn myself iinto a solid player in a rec team.

For me, I agree performance-wise. Where I feel Step Black really shines, is when you sharpen. Edges are always clean. But whether that's worth the extra $30-$40, as you stated, is the question. Also, Step Black just stands out more to the gear hounds since it does have a unique look to it - if that's your thing.

Could & should probably go in the sweet spot thread...but going back to work sucks. I was fortunate to find a job quickly (& close to home) but having a few weeks off to spend with my son was awesome and now you realize it’s back to the grind for a loooooong one, ha.

There are growing pains with any company. The difference is in how the company handles the bumps.... I haven't dealt with True VH ; but it sounds like effort and intention are being put forward. The only thing that I think they should revisit is the fitment at the hockey box store. I say this from having worked the automotive service and parts box store system. Variables the consumer dosent see or hear . One example is the amount of employees hours the store is allowed is measured by the existing business volume. Customers point of view is why am I waiting so long for assistance.... Another is management works 50 hour weeks minimum . The management is burned out by the time customer xxx comes in to get fit at 7:00 ; he or she takes the time with the customer done all the ' have to be trained on' stuff. Then hands off the data to an assistant. Who more often then not is prematurely promoted. The assistant has to work the floor, ; and this has him or her putting off transferring data . The place is closed the assistant wants to go home and is hurrying and does it wrong. These things are where issues originate. the skates come wrong or take forever. None of it the fault of craftsmanship. It's all fault of the point of sale . The places are set up to be controlled chaos.

Many of the so-called elite teams are just money grabs for the people running them and a pain in the ass for the parents shuffling their kids all over lord knows where.

So just a quick review after skating on my True skates (lightspeed edge holders) last night for the first time. I am a referee skating several times a week at the college and junior level primarily. I skated a prep school game, and a high school game last night. First game they certainly felt different than my Bauer Nexus 7000 VCut pro stock skates. I felt like I was on the ball of my feet a little more, or they didn't seem as flat. So there was a slight adjustment there, and it almost felt like I was using some muscles I normally didn't use. Second game, felt much better and very comfortable. The skates seemed to be very reactive to turns, push off strides and stops. Felt like I was generating more power directly than losing any power through the stride. Overall the skates felt really good, and very happy with them so far. Can be difficult to put on at first, but it's a learning process. No blisters, or pain anywhere, just an adjustment that I've slowly made. Skating 2 more college games this weekend which will be a good test for them. Will further update after this weekend.

How can something that is custom made from a digital laser scan of your feet not fit better?

Really depends on what you are looking for, why do you want to switch from a 10/11'? Quads gives you the ability to make tighter turns but have stability in the middle and back end if the blade. There is quad 0, 1 and 2. Alot of guys go with quad 1, but I didn' notice much of a difference between that and 9/10'. On the quad scale 0 would be better for turning, 2 would be for speed. 1 would be inbetween both.
