3 pointsI wish we would've made a video for this..... Maybe next time I'll ask someone to record something. We had a bunch of high-level players together on the ice today for a few hours and decided after the end of our scrimmage we would do shooting drills. Compared sticks were the Bauer Vapor Flylite, Bauer Ultrasonic, and Bauer Nexus 2N Pro vs the CCM FT3 Pro, CCM Trigger 4 Pro, and CCM AS2 Pro. The FT3 Pro was absolutely the crowd favorite and took the number one spot for 90% of the players. The second was a tie for the Bauer Flylite and Nexus. Coming in next was the Trigger 4 Pro, then the AS2 Pro followed by the Ultrasonic in the last place. What was shocking was just how much players disliked the Ultrasonic. They felt the release was slow, shots didn't have the same power, and overall it required more work and effort than other sticks that were much more forgiving. I can't disagree with them. I personally didn't like the stick as it felt much stiffer than the flex rating due to the new change in the kick point. The blade also didn't feel very lively compared to others. I always disliked the more recent Supreme sticks blade and weight balance. I figured this new update would maybe redeem the Supreme line back to its old glory. Unfortunately, the data says otherwise. Anyway. Sitting at the bar having a drink waiting for the games to start so I figured I would not this all down while it's still fresh in my mind.

2 pointsMan, one of these smaller companies needs to get their crap together and start making gear exclusively adults playing beer league. No one under 35 gives two craps about Sher-Wood. There is however an entire segment of the market that wants old school gear from an old school brand like Sher-Wood. When it comes to sticks it's about value and durability. Make a decent performing stick that hold up reasonably well and sell it for $149. Hell, I'd buy one just to try it. In other words, do something different. I don't understand why they don't get it.
-
2 pointsKind of lost how this question is in this section of the thread about the retailers not filling the fit process properly. I have seen posts from stores posting pictures from all manufacturers that are not being done as per manufacturer instructions. IE standing in freshly baked skates. (Usually on an IG story). The in store training is the key.

1 pointMost dealerships aren't going to allow you to return a car post-purchase, unless it falls under your local lemon laws. "I changed my mind" isn't going to get you anywhere.
-
1 pointThe S19 was made by Easton. The Mako was a design purchased from elsewhere. Not really comparable. A lot of people reference the mako because the fit of them was so totally different compared to everything else on the market.
-
1 pointDoesn't really need to have a seal, it's really more meant to limit what gets expelled (and the distance it gets expelled initially) through coughing, sneezing, and heavy breathing. $20 is okay, but the timeline does definitely suck. As for the gaiter: wet it thoroughly beforehand. Makes it way nicer to breathe through and you don't notice the sweatyness. The one I got is a cooling gaiter so they're meant to be wet and wrung out before wearing anyway.
-
1 pointThe fit was good, boot had great thermoformability, one-piece, and its design allowed for a good range of motion.

1 pointFT3 Team is very nice for the price. I think he ran into some ordering/inventory issues due to COVID. Saw something he posted on Instagram about finally get in new stock.

1 pointI've been in the Pro Shop in a 4 rink building since 2001. Locally beer leaguers are tape, sharpening and a only if necessary new stick types. Not universal for all areas of course. I do agree BLers don't care about latest newest gear when it's time for the replacement purchase of totally dead gear.

1 pointWilliam Nylander wears a wicked tight/short girdle. Could be that you are part of the hockey fashion vanguard, and your nephew and son are stuck in the past.
-
1 pointCCM face shields are out. They actually don't seem half bad. For goalies:

1 pointI meant specifically the white things on the back of the ankle and just make it a graphic package for nostalgic reasons.
-
1 pointAs mentioned by many others. Why? That is totally up to the store. Bauer Scanners have to be purchased there not free. Ipads for True are free but are property of True. Not sure how CCM does there's. But were talking products that are consumables like rivets and helmet screws. No company pays for that stuff you buy your own consumables.
-
1 pointDidn't realize they raised prices. It's also hideous. It's a shame because Sher-Wood is awesome. The m90 is a great stick and a great value. The BPM 120 glove was great all around. Sherwood could honestly do great business by just being good and a bit cheaper

1 pointso...lots of obvious truths in the article but what wasn't mentioned was what consumer persona they are targeting, what the vision is, what the gap they hope to fill is, and how they are going to fill it... Disruptive...in truth not a marketing buzzword but it has been commoditized as to have become meaningless...

1 pointOh but they're setting out to 'disrupt' the industry...marketing buzzword bingo has commenced! 'CODE' series, doesn't Tour Hockey have a 'CODE' Line of equipment?

1 pointThis brings gear nerding to a whole new level. I love it. I have shot every stick on that list except the ultrasonic and the ft3 pro (used the ft2 and the 2s pro before, but I think they changed the kick point from the 2s pro) and I would definitely agree with most of the conclusions. I liked the as2 a lot. I would say the Nexus is preferable to the flylite to me because of the balance, but that's mostly because of the flylite blade, which I found to have a weird balance relative to the stiffness
-
1 pointI like to test all of the gear so I have an idea of what we are carrying and selling. It's impossible to talk about product X vs Y vs Z if you have never tested it. As it stands, I prefer the skate that first me best over everything else. Currently, that is TRUE skates.
-
1 pointI don't know if I'd call this data. But I concur, my son does not like the 2S Pro I just bought him. Glad I didn't cut the thing as I'm going to try and unload it! He'd rather have an MX3 for sure.
-
1 pointWhy would a "custom" skate have so much negative space to begin with that you would need seran wrap or tensor bands for the bake?
-
1 pointUnderstand your point, but realistically speaking this is impossible to do. True, (or any other manufacturers in any business) can only ensure that they offer complete training to the retailers. It is then up to the retailer to provide the best shopping experience. That's what the retailer does to earn their markup. Short of having their own employee in every store, True can do nothing to ensure retailers are following protocol.
-
1 pointWithout a doubt it's for simplicity as well as speed and ease of use. You don't think CCM wished they came up with that system first?
-
1 pointGuess NHL equipment mangers and players disagree. Of the 11% of NHL players wearing True skates most have Edge holders on them. Unless he recently changed last time I saw Marner he was also still sporting edge holders on his Trues'. From experience I'm not seeing durability issues in my area.

1 pointTechniflex designed elbow pads with modern materials would be incredible. The concept was so ingeniously simple too, it was simply a hinge between the upper and lower piece with a free floating elbow cap. I wore those things to death, even when they became the Bauer Vapors - which weren’t quite as good.
-
1 pointI assumed CCM was gonna do this when they went back to the Tacks name. But, I guess not enough old people buy skates, and young people don’t want skates that look like Grandpa’s.
-
1 pointThat whole Techniflex line was so far ahead of its time. The elbows and shoulder pads were awesome. I had a few 3pc elbowpads over the past 10 years (V08, RBZ, jetspeed) but none were as good as those techniflex ones. As for the helmet... I must have gotten my first one just after they changed to Bauer, I remember the guy at the store (Syosset Sports, the Islanders old supplier) explaining the difference between the 2 models he had and the one I went with (the 4500 I'm guessing) had thinner VN foam and a thin piece of a denser black foam closer to the shell. I remember him saying "the shells are the same and the overall thickness of padding is the same but this one the pros think looks smaller on their heads since there's not as much of the thick foam", I was sold and that may have been the first time I learned what the mirror test was 🤣
-
1 pointTechniflex elbow pads are the standard by which I measure all others. I don't know why companies can't make a quality, flexible 3 piece elbow pad anymore.
-
1 pointI'm onboard with all the ideas here. I still think there's a market for limited production, nostalgic based design/aesthetics with modern materials. Especially on sticks and skates if the only thing companies have to do is change the print/logo they put on stuff, which seems pretty do-able nowadays. I think the companies could print a CCM Tacks Heel Wedge or the white/black contrast on the heel like Mega Air 10-90's skates or make a shiny silver gretzky-esqe one piece stick. I'd love to see gloves in retro color-ways or at least more than the drab one solid color, but I kinda get how that process could be difficult in the manufacturing process. Just take a page out of Nike's handbook and 're-issue' or 're-make' stuff on a limited run, make a cool social media campaign behind it to get the kids on board, and boom profit. At least thats how it works in my mind...
-
1 pointI would want a modern one-piece Sherwood Rekker stick but painted with PMP 5030, feather image, and SHER-WOOD using the old-fashioned font on it. The name LECLAIR on it for curve designation too instead of PP##.

1 pointSuper happy with these. Sadly not pro stock or 9144 but I’m super stoked. Jofa makes the best elbow pads in my opinion. Missed them. Time to sell my Bauer’s
