  1. I was browsing sideline and saw a pro stock skate on there that is size 6 senior but using a size 272 holder and runner (🤯) curious if anybody would be able to enlighten me and explain why/how (aside from personal preference obviously) this would be beneficial for skating?
  2. I am a girl joining a travel A team. I am looking for new gear for more protection. I am also willing to look on Sidelineswap for older models also. My old is different pieces from Play It Again Sports, Sidelineswap, and neighbors. I don't have much experience buying new gear since its just guessing if it will fit and being okay with it. I want my gear to fit me properly. I am in the market for new shoulder, elbow, and shin pads, as well as pants/girdle. I think Bauer is my brand but I am open to using other brands also. I am not sure if I should look into Supreme or Vapor because I want protection since I block shots a lot. I play center, wing, and defense and I am a very fast skater. Definitely want very protective shin pads because I have been injured by a hard shot between the skate and the shinguard and that was not fun. For the breezers, I have had a hard time finding ones that fit me. I used the Supreme 2s Pros as my first pants, some random Bauer one on Sidelineswap that was too big, and I am using CCM pants from I don't know how long ago that fit the length but I have to keep tightening the strap on the ice since the waist seems too big. As a girl I don't know what pants will fit well, and I have looked up the CCM women's gear and many have submitted bad reviews on the fit and protectiveness. Thought a girdle would work since its tight fitting and would fit to my body snuggly so the pants don't fall while playing. I plan on going to a pro shop to try some gear on but would like to have an idea of what to try first. Any knowledge on this topic is helpful. Thanks!
  3. Hey guys, Was hoping I could seek some insight on proper skate fit. I recently started playing competitively & recreationally again after a 10 year hiatus, played high level through my younger years and high school but never went past that as it was time to get into the work force. Long story short at the beginning of this year I noticed I definitely needed new skates (10 year old Bauer one.8's, that were bought too big as my parents always had the "buy one size bigger" mentality so I would "grow" into them, turns out that set I never did, lol). They were a size 8.5D, my shoe size is approx 9/9.5. Not knowing anything about getting skates properly fitted I came across a set of True TF9's 7.5R that were being sold secondhand but were new (didnt fit the guy properly), $350CAD w/ Tuuk holders & steel. Did lots of reading on here and it seemed like that would be the right size, so went to Sportchek tried them on in a 7.5R and they felt pretty tight but from what I read thats the way they should feel before a bake so I went ahead and picked the used set up. Got them baked and everything felt awesome initially. Fast forward 6 months later I have a ton of my pain on my outside of my forefoot and the outside of my ankle bone always has been an issue with the Trues, have had them punched a couple times. Tried the TFPRO tongues as the stock TF9 tongues would dig into the outside of my ankle, alleviated some pain, but still present. So I figured Id go to my LHS and get scanned and fitted for some Bauers. Initially thought Id go with some Hyperlites but was open to the Mach's as well, just whatever fit best. Scan came to a 7.5 FIT3. To my surprise I actually had wide feet which I never knew. Explained my pain in the Trues. So tried on some 7.5 FIT3 Hyperlites, too long. They didnt have FIT3's in Size 7. So tried in the 3X Pro in 7 FIT3, felt comfortable but not super 'tight' if that makes sense, through the whole skate just kinda felt like there was too much volume? Tried the 7 FIT3's in the Machs and they felt the best, im not sure if it was because I was able to get them tighter with the traditional eyelets, but they almost felt maybe they were a touch too long? I also came across a set of new Hyperlites size 7 FIT3 for a good price on marketplace, but not sure I want to go down that road again lol. Now im wondering if I should go back and try a 6.5 FIT3 (bonus as theyre cheap due to the int sizing) in both models, and maybe a 7 FIT2 in the Vapor line. How should the skates feel before being baked? As far as width tight but not uncomfortable? Toes touching the toe box? I know the Trues changed drastically after being baked, so im afraid of buying skates that fit good out of the box but over time break in to be too big, if that makes sense. Especially at the $1k price point. My LHS has been awesome with helping me and are very knowledgable but I know theres a ton of people on here that are experts on this stuff, so just wanted to reach out. Sorry if this thread is in this wrong section.
  4. Dear Modsquadhockey community, I am unfamiliar with the proper way to ask a question here, and please excuse me if I did it wrong. I am looking for a replacement for my bauer apx skates. In apx, I like the stiffness and the responsiveness (due to the minimal padding), although apx is very low on instep volume (my arch is bulging out of the laced skate). I did order the 2x pro and thinking about trying CCM super tacks. Could anyone suggest me other options to check? Kind regards
  5. Does Bauer still offer tech-mesh as an option in custom Vapors? I haven't seen a recent Vapor model dressed like that in the last few years. I've been nostalgicurious about Vapors lately. My last pair of Bauers were the original generation Vapor 8s. I loved how they got soft around the top 3 eyelets. The only pro I know of still wearing the tech-mesh build (was it called Mosoca towards the end of the glorious '10s? (Before the CoronApocalypse...)) is Thrill Kessel. Are there any others out there?
  6. I read the Bauer’s factory profile is set at what I am assuming is a Quad Zero due to the radio (6ft-9ft-11ft-13ft) out of the box. Pro Sharp lists this as a size 7-8 skate. Does this mean that if one has a junior size 1-2, the Bauer factory profile would be a Quad 3XS (4ft-5ft-7ft-10ft)? I have new Step Steel Blacksteel and want to possibly profile them with a Quad 3XS for my squirt. I’d like him to skate in the profile prior and if the Bauer factory profile matches Pro Sharp’s Quad profiling, I won’t need to profile the LS Pulse blades saving me money. He is currently on a Cag One 15/25 with slight lean forward and likes it but want to see what the Quad feels like. Anyone have any insight to this? Thanks
  7. I handed off my Bauer 1X skates to my youngest son (yes, my former "little guy" many of you might remember at Summer Jam skates is now 13, 5' 10", and wearing a 9D skate...miracle grow must be in the food supply), so it was time to look at a suitable alternative. I went back and forth looking and had some conversations with JR debating at a Hyperlite custom job...but that $1300 price tag was a tough pill to swallow right now. As luck would have it, I was able to find a pair of new 2X pros in a 9 Fit1 at a great price ($600), so that made it worth the gamble. I've had the chance to skate in them three times so far, and will maintain a long term review of the skate for those that might be lucky to get their hands on a pair. Fit - 10/10 In order to get a true understanding of the recent Bauer additions of the fit system, you must try all of the sizes: Width: C - narrow width D - traditional regular width EE - wide width Skate fit: Fit1 - low volume (narrow vapor last) Fit2 - medium volume (medium supreme last) Fit3 - high volume (full Nexus last) I've always had a narrow foot in the past (C/AA), but after gaining 38 lbs, my foot is a D width now with a narrow forefoot. The 9.0 Fit1 was perfect for me. Tossing all the marketeering aside, the asymmetrical toe cap and quarter are the two major contributors to the fit. Feet are not symmetrical, and I credit Bauer for acknowledging that in the 1X boot. The 2X advances that correct fit with the toe cap, and the reduced height in the fit1 configuration removed a lot of the extra space, but my foot is still so narrow that I still required the adrenaline toe insert to eliminate the negative space. After a complete baking (including the OG CCM compression bag machine...man they need to bring that gem of a relic back to life) the skate fits like a sock. I have to say it's the best fit I've ever had, second only to the customs I used to have when my foot was narrower. The liner is another key piece of the fit that I'm impressed to see as an advancement. I always used to custom order the legacy grip liner for the good heel lock in the boot. This new lock-fit pro liner has that grip material right in the heel area, and my heel locks into the boot perfectly. Tongue - 9/10 This is my pet peeve with most retail skates. Every year there seems to be new advancements in this part of the boot, and with every custom order, I stick to old reliable classic traditional thick felt tongues. I have to say that the APX2 had the best retail tongue in recent history, with the thick felt and the lace bite plastic stitched into the middle of it. The 1X lace lock tongue was a disaster. The 2X pro Recoil pro tongue so far has been a pleasant surprise, striking a balance to the thick felt I like with a recoiling injected metatarsal guard. After three skates I like the flex and how comfortable they are. Insole - N/A I'm not including this in the total score, because I don't use the insole that comes with skates. I highly recommend using a more rigid thermoformable insole. I use the speed plate 2.0, and I would rate them a 10. I also recommend baking them with the skate for a complete form fit. The rigid outsole makes for outstanding energy transfer and gives the boot that complete single one-piece molded feel. Holder - 9/10 Steel - N/A The Lightspeed edge has been around for a number of years, and continues to be a winner for me with the simple trigger system for steel removal. While the 2X pro comes with LS5 steel, I'm far too picky about quality steel and it will be hard for me to switch from the superior quality of the Tydan DLC sets I have. I even told the person I bought the skates from that they could keep the steel that was shipped with the boot. I swap my sets twice a year - because a Bouce 90/50 on the DLC lasts 6 months with 2-3 skates a week. That's how amazing the durability of that steel has been for me, and there's no reason to look elsewhere with those results. Weight/Protection/Stiffness - 10/10 Weight is incredible, and amazingly light. Protection is a TBD on the long term review. Since the APX2, Bauer has impressed me with the stiffness of the elite level boot. My customs up to the APX were a stiff (3), but my APX2, 1X, and now 2X pro are stiff enough to my liking at a 2. Durability - TBD Will use long term review to judge durability. Too soon for that. Intangibles - 10/10 I always liked the vapor color schemes, and the 2X pro continues that pattern with an appealing graphics package. The tendon guard on the 2X pro has moved to the injected plastic tendon guard, and it has a bit more flex than previous Vapor models which were very rigid. It's the one thing I really like about the supreme tendon, and I'm happy to see this advancement in the vapor line. Conclusion - 48/50 This skate is exceeding my expectations, and I hope to get several years of use. With an immediate break-in from a perfect fit and baking, and responsive flex in the tongue, I was able to work tight turns and edges in my first skate with them with ease. Long term durability is yet to be seen, and I plan to post more on that front as I continue to use them. With pricing under $700, if you can find a pair in your size I would jump on them.
  8. Hi All, Longtime lurker, first time poster...;) This is a fantastic forum and resource for all things hockey equipment related so I thought what better place to ask my question! I'm looking to get my name embroidered onto my Bauer Nexus gloves on the cuff or the side (whatever)...anyone have any recommendations in the Greater Toronto Area (or anywhere else)? Please let me know and thanks in advance!
  9. Bauer Nexus GEO and TRUE PX?
  10. Hey, i have a few question about bauer fit system. I have apx2 9.0D skates and i am considering new skates. I maybe want 2x pro skates. I used the 3D machine and scan said i have 8.0 size and fit 2. I have low volume feet but my width is E. So i am worried about the boot height/volume. Is the Fit 2 boot higher than fit 1 or my apx2 skate? Are there different in boot height between supreme and vapor?

  12. Hello everyone. I'll preface this by saying I'm 6' 1" and 325lbs with short wide feet. The only pair of skates I've ever owned are an old hand me down pair of Bauer Supreme 7000's I got from my uncle in size 10. They've always been way too big but I've made them work in the past. I decided the other day that I'm going to get into playing in adult leagues to lose weight and for an overall love of the game. I went to my local hockey store and they put me on the Bauer 3D scanner. It said I should be in a pair of Bauer Nexus size 6.5D. I tried them on and they were too small. So the guys manually measured my feet and said I should be in a 7.0EE. So they have me a pair of CCM Jetspeed FT460's to try. They felt okay sitting at the store so I picked them up. I couldn't even walk in these things the next day. The toe box crushes my toes on the sides and cuts into the top of my foot when I'm standing. Also my ankles buckle from side to side while trying to walk or stand on them but I've read that it's probably my weight and I need a higher price point skate with more stiffness. I was thinking that maybe the scanner was right about the Bauer Nexus because of the higher volume in the skate but they only come in a D. Any advice that you all could give me would be much appreciated. This is the first pair of skates I've ever bought. Thank you!
  13. Hi Guys! I had a question for you guys. I just bought a new pair of Bauer Vapor X800 skates, in size 12EE. I wear a wide size 14 shoe. The skates fit pretty well, with some tightness along the sides of my foot. I previously had Nexus 1N skates, that I didn’t like because they had too much volume (my feet are flat) After getting them baked, I skated on them the other day and I noticed a crease on the inside of the Left skate, between the 6th and 7th eyelet. It was only an open skate, so I wasn’t going too nuts. . Is this any cause for concern? Any potential breakdown issues with this worsening? Thanks!!
  14. Sup everyone! New guy here, i recently started playing again as a winger at a beer league level. I used to play "semi" pro as a goalie, (the league was pro but i was not lol) So I'm not the best skater as a winger, i have a skillset, its just quite different I mention this because i recently ordered bauer s29, an old sponsor hooked me up for 225 euro. but I recently learned that they are soft to help out beginners. Now im no beginner but im certainly not a master of skating out as a forward and im quite heavy too: 1m86/6ft1 and lets just say im definitely a heavyweight at over 250 lbs (part of the reason i started playing this year) Then yesterday an old teammate said he could sell me his used bauer 1s skates used a pro season but half a size bigger for 160 euros (size nine instead of 8.5) Now when my last season i was in vapor 1x pro goalie skates in a 9 but i heard skates too big could really hurt skating technique. So my question is would S 29s be to soft? Keep the s29s or send em back and get the 1s? Any advice would be much appreciated, i don t know much about player gear Best
  15. Hi everyone! I'm back to skating after A LOT of years. I bought myself some Bauer Vapor 2.7 in Sweden (I'm from Patagonia Argentina). I have two rinks in the small town I live, but no hockey shop. Thing is, in Sweden they offered to bake them; but after doing an awful service on sharpening (I had them sharpened twice, they mauled my blades and couldn't do a hollow either), I had them reserviced in Frankfurt with no problems. Skates feel comfortable enough without baking them (and I've only used them twice), but I do notice that the skate in itself seems to really need baking (mostly for tying the upper eyelets). HERE'S MY BIG QUESTION: (and I could really appreciate advice from people who's had or knows someone with the same exact model). I've watched several videos on how to bake at home. But the thing is, the boot having many cosmetic details on shiny plastified black 'leather' and the parts that are 'chrome' coloured. Am I gonna mess those up? I would bake them on a towel or a tea towel, so they don't come in contact with any metal part of the oven, but my fear is that, softening the boot in order to be moulded, these cosmetic parts become damaged or changed in any way. Mostly because since I live 15000kms away from any hockey store, I have to take a 13 hour flight to Germany or Sweden to buy my skates. Imagine I would like these skates to last as much as possible, and also to stay as pretty as they are already! Thanks for any input!

    Bauer Nexus 2NPro

About Me Height: 5’10” Weight: 150 lbs Shoots: Left I've been playing hockey since I was 7 with roller and started ice when I was 11. I've played as high as midget AAA but was a career AA player at best, along with high school varsity hockey in New Jersey. I've used many sticks throughout my time on the ice. To give you an idea of what I have to compare the Nexus to, I've used: Nike Bauer Vapor XXX Lite TPS Response R8 RBK 7K SicKick Easton Synergy SL Easton Stealth CNT CCM pro stock with XX-stiff blade TRUE A6.0 SBP (pro stock) Warrior QR Edge Bauer APX2 Bauer Vapor ADV Bauer Nexus 1NXL Bauer 1X Lite Bauer Pro Custom 2NPro + Vapor 1X Lite blade The Nexus 2NPro was my first retail stick purchase in god knows how long. I was very excited for the stick after falling in love with my 1NXL. Stick specs: 70 flex, P28 Blade/Receiving Passes - 6.5/10 The R-Lite blade is allegedly the most popular spec at the NHL level as it has the crispiness of a stiffer blade but softened feel for receiving hard passes and improving puck feel. My thoughts on this blade are mixed; off the shelf it felt amazing, and though I disagree that a softer blade core helps with puck feel (in my experience a dampened feel hurts because you can't easily feel with your hands where on the blade the puck is) I wasn't initially put off by the extra dampening like I have been with other sticks because I prefer a livelier blade. However, be it the materials or maybe just my stick, the blade went dead very quickly. I'm talking about less than 8 full sessions. It quickly lost that crispy feel that I liked and just became a dampened blade. If this blade retained its pop longer, this score would be close to a 9/10. Shaft/Flex – 9/10 I like the Nexus hybrid shaft shape a lot, but only just slightly behind the traditional boxy shape of the Supreme line. Otherwise, no complaints about the shaft of the stick. I got a 70 flex and it really feels like a 70 flex (strangely enough my Pro Customs were also 70 flex but feel more like an 87). Stickhandling – 7/10 Similar to how the blade quickly died on me, stickhandling was great initially but quickly faded as the blade lost its crisp. Nothing much more to say about that; if the blade stayed crispier longer this would be close to a 9/10. Shooting – 8.5/10 Shooting with this stick has remained very good, even with the blade losing its life early on. Pucks don't laser off the blade like with my 1X Lite or ADV, but they have "weight" behind them. My only complaint comes, once again, thanks to the blade. Initially the puck would release faster but as the blade lost its life pucks started to come off more slowly. Weight and Balance – 9/10 Not Bauer's lightest offering, not its heaviest. I think this stick is very nicely balanced, however, without being too blade or too shaft heavy. But there is definitely a more blade-heavy bias to the stick which is not what I would prefer (for example, TRUE has managed to move their center of gravity on their sticks higher up in the shaft to give the perception of a lighter stick which is very welcome). Durability – 7/10 I'm going to give durability a 7/10. The shaft has held up fine to physical impact with only a small chunk lost near the neck of the blade. Obviously the blade construction is not going to score well here. However, one thing I did notice about the stick itself is that not long after I've used it (say around 15 sessions) I started to notice that the shaft started to develop a very subtle but noticeable (when you stack 2 sticks together) bend/flex to it (in the direction you would expect). This tells me that the carbon is not returning completely to its original shape after shots. Maybe I got a defective unit but that was definitely something I was not expecting from a stick I paid almost $300 for. Intangibles The 2NPro graphics have grown on me, though I personally prefer the look of the 2017 1N. Conclusion – 7.75/10 Bottom line: a very solid stick when its new but doesn't hold up as well as you would hope. Yes, "elite" sticks are technically less durable, but I was hoping to be able to really use the stick at its original characteristics for more than a few months. I had to give up using it earlier than I would have liked because the blade just became unusable to me.
  17. Looking online recently at the new Vapor line of sticks and saw how they have kept just to having 4 sticks, as the previois generation did. Today I picked of an equipment buyer's guide from le trio hockey (PHL in the rest of Canada) and the section of Vapors they the 2X stick advertised in the middle of the line priced at $269.99 CAD. I have to ask, was this stick dropped after something like this was printed, or will it be an exclusive to certain retailers? Seems odd that this store is the only place who has advertised the "mid-range" stick. $270 seems crazy for a middle of the pack stick!
  18. Before heads explode I KNOW that painting a helmet is dumb and weakens the plastic and comes off and looks terrible. And I already contacted Bauer and they will not sell just the ventsThis is why I ask. My little guy who is 10 plays rep hockey non contact. Well his regular team due to politics will be taking a year off to move leagues. Due to his regular team colors being Navy and powder blue will not work with the Black and Orange of the team he is playing for this season. Luckily he has a black Bauer Re-akt 75 in all black that we bought this summer for ball hockey. But the coach prefers the vents on the helmet to be orange. Well as he already owns 2 $160 helmets buying a 3rd is just not something I want to do.Sooooooo I was wondering if there was a way to paint the vents orange. I bought some 3M vinyl which works but it's a pain. I was thinking Orange krylon fusion and super light coats.
  19. Anyone have any info on the up and coming mission roller hockey skate? I'm looking at buying the NLS1 now but trying to figure out if its worth another couple of months in my skates. Any idea on release date, specs ect. Mostly wanting to know any injected lacing with the mission roller hockey skates.
  20. Hey Guys, Tried on the new 2X skates today(non-pro), and they are very comfortable, have a nice stiff quarter, good heel lock, etc. The only thing holding me back from grabbing them, is the 'Pro tpu Outsole", as apposed to the full carbon. I am coming from the apx2 skates, and before that, the ccm u+cl, so i have been using full carbon boots for some time. Anybody have any insight into the tpu outsoles? I know its basically just a plastic, but its definitely some sort of injected plastic, and is still relatively stiff. Any insight would be great, would be awesome if anybody has skated in the skates, and could leave some feedback, but they're obviously brand new, so might be a long shot. Any info would be great!

  22. How / where can I get a pair of bauer vapor xxxx in 6 3/4? The custom size is the only thing I'm really interested in; no other changes.
  23. CCM Tacks 9080 vs Bauer Supreme S180 Which one is better? and why? please help!
  24. What do people think are the nicest helmet/cage combinations? I'm currently switching between a black CCM Tacks 710 with a CCM FM480 chrome, a black Bauer 4500 with an oreo Profile II, and a black Bauer ReAkt with a CCM FM480 chrome. I'll post photos of the 710 and the reakt when I figure out how to
  25. Anyone know the actual release date for the Bauer speed plates 2.0?
