Going back to my retail days, "Cheap shit on the internet, is Cheap Shit on the Internet for a reason." be careful what you wish for

I'm not saying this is why they are doing it, however, follow me here... In July 2016, there was an opposition filed to the USPTO (https://trademarks.justia.com/859/34/cooper-85934700.html). I'm guessing that someone challenged Bauer's ownership of the trademark for not having it used in commerce and their attorneys went into motion. A year later, the opposition was mysteriously dropped, and Bauer has since asked the USPTO for extensions, to the tune of a 5th extension filed and granted in March of this year. So, my guess is USPTO told Bauer to either shit or get off the pot, and this offering is them getting off the pot. BTW, this is why the NHL, for many years, has kept their top past team logos as offerings (i.e. NY Americans, Hartford Whalers, Minnesota North Stars, Quebec Nordiques) on nhl.com. Anyhow, carry on.

Gloves for sure. Keep the modern tech, but give me old school color schemes. Modern gloves are boring and drab. I loved those tan mitts the Stars wore for that outdoor game, same for the throw back Jets gloves from the heritage classic. An old school CCM bucket would be badass. Give me one of those with modern day padding. Don't skimp, I want the red and blue CCM logo too.

Micron Mega 10-90 graphics package would be light-years better than the current gold monstrosity on the supreme line.

Gotta agree with Stick9 on the glove colorways. Do a run of throwback graphics/schemes (think Warrior Remix from a few years ago) Whalers, Yotes, North Stars, Canucks , Devils , White cuff Bruins, Blues etc.

Looking on the Bauer website today and came across a new release: https://www.bauer.com/en-CA/cooper-gear/cooper-4500-helmet-senior-619898.html#q=4500&sz=60&start=1 Trying to cash in on nostalgia?

Didn't bauer did something like that with the xxx-lite? Make it a Titan 2020 and I'm in.

There is clearly a market for these gloves since every time PSH gets the Whaler gloves they are basically instantly sold up and sell for a markup. I've been trying to find a pair of those and the Blue Retros for a while... resorted to ordering custom Eagles to get the blues ones done.

I know it’s not the classic silver version, but I actually really like the red.

give me a pair of 4 rolls with the Cooper logo/font

I always liked the red, it reminded me of the original Titan sticks from the late 70's. I've still got a black one in my basement that I bought in 1988 or 89. I also had the original silver and green version. That one actually had a hole punched in the shaft when I blocked a shot. I was surprised to find foam in the shaft similar to what you'd find used as stuffing in furniture.

This sort of makes sense to me because of the results I get from the Bauer scanner. When the 1S line was out, the scanner always recommended a 7.5D Supreme. When the software was updated for the 2S Pro line, I then consistently received a recommendation of an 8D Supreme. What I find puzzling is that with the latest software update for the Ultrasonic line, the scanner suddenly tells me I am a Fit 1. I have a pretty high instep, and always fail the pencil test on Vapors.

They are not. Starting with the 1S, Bauer shortened the skates by about 1/8-1/4", which often means you need to go up a 1/2 size. Of course it depends on your actual foot and how close to the front your toes are in the MX3. But I had to go from an 8 MX3 to an 8.5 2S Pro, which should fit the same as the Ultrasonic. Though there will be less volume in the toecap of the Ultrasonic.

Techniflex elbow pads are the standard by which I measure all others. I don't know why companies can't make a quality, flexible 3 piece elbow pad anymore.

Huh. Can the R1 be used without an insert? If so, what’s the impact? I didn’t even think about the bolt so now you can change the insert AND adjust the bolt tension for more/less rocker?

They should go back to the old Supreme heel design since the heels are never covered but anything anymore!

I haven't returned to play yet but we have been working in the Pro Shop since June 15. I have been tested twice. The nasal swab procedure is nothing to worry about. Negative results both times.

^^ With so many skates now looking generic black due to shot blocker covers, the big gold badge serves Bauer well for instant brand recognition on ice. Otherwise, I agree it is particularly unattractive. Now before IVP says I have derailed the thread, original Cooper 4 Rolls with vintage colorways need to come back with split fingers. Split fingers would be the only improvement I would suggest to add to those great gloves.

I believe that the GX was the last model year before the Bauer buy. If I remember correctly it was released in 2016, which was the year of the purchase. Edit: BTW, getting into discontinued brands is a slippery slope. As someone who still uses Easton sticks, I dread the day when I will have to find something else. Might want to nip it in the bud before it gets too difficult

Before Easton was absorbed, I would have liked to have seen a one-piece stick branded/wrapped like the old Wayne Gretzky shiny aluminum twig...

Actually. the R1s have the bolt and bushing also and the inserts seem to limit the amount of rock in the front or back. this video shows loosening the bolt and separating the lower and upper parts of the frame. https://m.facebook.com/groups/2743257915802367?view=permalink&id=2974659689328854

    There wasn't a Cooper 4000 or a 4500. The Cooper 3000 became the Bauer 3000, then the 4000 and 4500 followed.

Package came in today just before 1:30 p.m. EST. Looking forward to using these one day (whenever I get back to playing) but now I search a pair of skates to mount them on. I encourage those who can to use the MSH ProShop. I've used it in the past and JR does top-notch work (no surprise there)! Looking forward to peoples' feedback and pictures on the R1.

'Fontaine' Graphite sticks, remember Luc Robitaille using them. iTech 1-piece sticks that Larinov used were made by 'Busch'. Obviously 'Innovative' was huge in the 90's, Kovalev using them and then it basically becoming the Warrior we know today. And Pavel Bure used an off brand Composite called 'CAMAXX' but I'm not sure if I remember seeing it as that, it was a black shaft that had goldish lettering and even had a weird tactile grip if I remember, there are a lot of pics of Bure using it all blacked out. They were widely sold in the NY Area. Also there was Power-Flite, although I am not sure I remember them making anything but Aluminum shafts but thats from around the same timeframe as these others I listed.

For those who have expressed interest in trying it; at some point we may be able to start a Long-Term Review. I'm hoping to hit the ice next week. As some of you know, my mom is immunocompromised due to cancer and so we've been extremely cautious about us being exposed (and consequently, bringing it back to her) and she's getting another surgery at the end of next week. So I'm looking to go to the rink when there aren't many people there, and that's usually a weekday noon open skate session (which would be the best way to try these.) I like the way this thread is going so far; there's been very good back and forth discussion. Keep it up!
