Owen Power in CCM mitts but Bauer everything else, figured he'd be in all one or the other since they tend to sign these young kids to sponsorship deals pretty early on.

Anyone know if, all things being equal, different CCM skate lines have a different pitch to them? I have been in Ribcor 78k's for the past few years and they've been breaking down and feeling a bit too soft so I wanted to try something different and found a great deal on a pair of NOS Jetspeed FT490's. They are night and day different than the Ribcors in construction, weight, and stiffness but same skate size and runners so I swapped my existing Step Steel over to them and skated a couple of times. First time I used CCM Orthomove insoles, they felt like they propped my heels up too high in the boots and leaned me forwards so I went back to my old Superfeet from the other skates, feet felt better positioned with the heel ever so slightly lower so I picked up a new pair of Superfeet. Last game my feet felt better in the skates but I felt as if my blades were shorter and I was tipping forward a bit so wondering if the Jetspeeds have a different pitch perhaps? Both skates are 7.5, 263 XS holders, Step Steel with Quad .05 profile. I'm tempted to go get the stock steel profiled to something that might be a little longer up front but not sure what would give me a more balanced feeling, I'd rather experiment on the stock steel than eat away the Step Steel I have. Any suggestions?

Someone asked this somewhere else recently and I started thinking how one might actually repair it, my only guess was an old school shoe repair shop, those old school guys can fix anything lol

I remember the same and it makes sense, my friend was obsessed with him back then and he wore his socks like that for a bit. I can't find any pics of it either, just the usual over the tendon guard look, but also I remember for a while he'd tape around the bottom/back of the heel and around the top of the foot on an angle, might've held the socks at one time and added heel lock? He was/is def a unique guy lol
-
Honestly I think you're all thinking too much into it, the guys who go socks over probably just like the way it looks. When I was a kid I was a socks over (some kids even wore them down around the heels 🤮), when I started wearing the modern socks that tend to be tighter I stopped going over the tendon guard because most just felt too tight when I did it. Panarin goes over tendon guard but keeps his tongues out up front which is prob the ugliest option imho, it's like a reverse mullet for your skates.

The 704's had that unique unmistakable zig zag stitching pattern on the sides of the boot which was cool looking. I had 705's for years and loved them until they fell apart, took me a few tries til I found something that I liked again (CCM Ribcors pre one piece boot models are worth trying, 78k, 80k, or the older 70k). As for telling the width, unless the tag is still on and legible I think you may be out of luck.

Looking for Jock Compression short with Garter Belt
xstartxtodayx replied to iceman8310's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I have a CCM Pro jock and agree it is awesome but the biggest issue I can see is price... the pro jock is 2-3x more expensive than most of the jock combos on the market. -
Ok I spoke to "the experts"... my 9yo son likes them, likes the colors and thinks the design on the reverse side is cool (has no idea who Beiber is). My 12yo daughter thinks they're lame (she's 12 and is VERY opinionated so this was an emphatic "lame!" 🤣), she has heard of Justin Beiber but doesn't know who he is or why he's famous. I mean maybe it's more aimed at local Toronto kids so maybe the rest of us are out of the loop but if it's aimed at kids I think more colorful and fun designs might be better (looking at you Dallas Stars with the obnoxious green on black that I absolutely hated at first but have come to realize it actually really works well... of course both of my kids loved it from the get go lol, I clearly wasn't the target demographic there either).

I like a layer of stretchy sticky tape over regular cloth (either medical tape from CVS if they have some nice colors, or the overpriced version of the same stuff from the hockey shops). I tried Tacki Mac for a few games but it felt too thick to me, I guess I prefer something on the thinner side.
-
I'm assuming it's just the graphics package that's changing but it's interesting to see CCM promoting Matthews in both the Tacks and Jetspeed skates.
-
I agree. Also it's off that "jetspeed" seems to be in different fonts on each stick, or at the least the top one is bold and bottom is not, neither looks good to me.

I was in a similar situation trying to find skates that felt more like the old 90's style skates. I was in Graf 705's which were so comfortable but those began to fall apart (the holders were replaced so many times from cracking that the outsole began to deform and the materials started to dry out, being stored for a few years while I stopped playing didn't help either). First I tried an old pair of Bauer Supreme One75's which weren't bad (kind of wish they still made skates in that one90 style), then I had Bauer Vapor X700's, middle of the road Vapor but it felt way too stiff and felt like it was a really high cut on the sides. I then finally found something that felt like my old skates, CCM Ribcor 78K's. The Ribcor line is made to allow more flex than other lines (they have some fancy lingo for the "tech" that allows the boot to flex more), aside from that it felt like it had more ankle padding allowing for a really comfy fit similar to my old Grafs. I wouldn't hesitate to go and try on some of the Rbcor models, no need to get the 100k or 80k, like x-axis said, going mid tier will actually get you a slightly less stiff boot which will probably feel better to you.

Looks like an FT4 Pro to me.

I've hit this spot a few times over the years, it's an area that doesn't really have any padding in any pants/girdles. Basically where the ass meets the side of the leg/thigh sort of, it's below/behind the big thigh padding but to the side of the tailbone padding, at most you'll only have some soft foam there which doesn't help much. Once it's bruised it's gonna hurt for a few weeks, it's a rough spot with muscle and is prone to being irritated through movement and basic living (sleeping, sitting, etc.). Whenever it has happened to me it never fails I'd fall in the same area in the next game and that would make it worse. There really isn't a pant/girdle that offers heavy protection there (and if there was it would look like a giant diaper), so your best bet is to rest and maybe try something like a sliding short that was mentioned above.

Compression short or pant with garter belt?
xstartxtodayx replied to VegasHockey's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I ditched the velcro a while ago in favor of the old school garter belt, it just works better for me. A couple of months ago I decided I liked how my old 9K girdle had the built in velcro tabs for the old RBK socks and decided to make my own garter belt version by attaching the garter clips to some old velcro that I then stuck to the front velcro on my Super Tacks girdle (I have my thigh pads up just above the middle of the adjustment area so had some room below), I then sewed the clips to the back of the girdle, so it's all connected now and works like a charm. My 6th grade home-ec sewing skills keep coming in handy 😆 -
They both seem to be the same. I tried both, returned the FV1 and have a Bauer one in the garage since I picked it up used, neither was long enough for me. I wear a large Bauer Profile III cage (CCM cages I'm between a medium and a large which is why I go Bauer for cages). I'm the same as you, wear a small CCM helmet (or medium Bauer) but need a large cage. I was able to wear the Bauer bubble for a couple of games but it just didn't feel comfortable since it was a touch short.

Same, but I don't use a phone to view this site sop maybe the paper clip is a mobile only thing? I guess if a site offers hosting that may work but most forums don't as it requires added storage capacity ($$). You can still host on an image hosting site (most of which have easy to use apps now since we're talking mobile), grab the bbcode which is a copy/paste and can be done on mobile as well, then paste in the forum and share a photo. I'm 42, part of that in-between generation that grew up as tech was growing up so experienced the best of both worlds (and experienced the web before FB where forums were a way of life lol), maybe I just thought this would be common knowledge for anyone younger than me that only knew a life living with tech. Also, I just assume most users are younger than me since most of the teams I'm on, aside from the over 40 one, I'm way older than anyone else 😞 nothing worse than being twice the age of your D partner lol
-
The process hasn't changed in the past 20 years for posting photos to forums (aside from bbcode becoming the standard instead of the img code which I don't even think exists anymore): Step 1 - host the images somewhere (Flickr, imgur, photobucket if that exists anymore) Step 2: copy the bbcode and post in your msg. Step 3: profit? 😎

Stick Experts… Bauer 3X Pro vs CCM FT3 Pro?
xstartxtodayx replied to Westside's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Comparison wise an FT3Pro was a higher model stick than the 3X pro (top of the line vs 2 step down), so if it does make a difference it might be that the CCM has slightly better materials and might be a touch lighter (375grams vs 410 grams) Also, the FT3Pro is a Hybrid Kick Point vs the 3X Pro being a low kickpoint, the hybrid is supposed to be a mix between low/mid. Personally if I had to choose between those two I'd go with the FT3Pro. You also might want to consider a Ribcor since that might be closer to the Vapor you're used to being a low kick stick. If you can find a Trigger 4 Pro you might be able to get a deal, I'd steer clear of the Trigger 5's though... I picked up one of those on clearance in December and it didn't feel very good at all (felt almost pingy, was so odd to stickhandle and pass with, even shots didn't feel right), luckily it was slashed and broke and has since been replaced with a Trigger 6 which feels much much better. -
I wear a ST girdle as well, I was in a 9K for a while but found the ST to be lighter and more protective. I only had one Tacks style shell and found it did seem a little more on the slim side than the 9K/PP90 shells I was used to. One other thing that makes some shells "girdle" shells is they'll have some velcro tabs that some girdles can attach to, I guess that's useful if you only play on one team or something but I have yet to find a practical use for them myself. I have some 9K/PP90 shells, Warrior Covert shells, and a couple of Bauer PP10 style pant shells, all will fit over a girdle and I've found everything fits different even when marked the same lol (in the PP90's one medium was longer and baggier than another medium even though both tags were marked the same, ended up selling the larger one), so nothing is definite. If you want baggier, I have found the Warrior Dynasty pro stock ones fit a but more on the boxy side and are also usually a little easier to find and sometimes cheaper (HockeyMonkey has them at times on clearance).
-
I've never heard of a PP12 before so had to go look... PSH lists it as a girdle shell, so my guess would be the PP10 would be a bit looser/more boxy since it's made to fit better over pants. I've always been under the impression pant shells are slightly boxier than girdle shells but I could be wrong lol, most girdle shells have a little extra thin pad on the back of the thighs and usually go a little higher (PP90's even have some kidney protection), where as the pant shells are usually just covers, sometimes with more mesh gusseting in the back.

Quote of the day right here 🤣

From what I've found it's the strapping and the overall fit on your arm that matters more than 2pc/3pc as for how it stays on. I've had several elbow pads over the past year or so since I'm between sizes (I'm always looking for that perfect pair and I'm pretty sure it just doesn't exist), some 3 pc some 2 pc and the ones that have fit best and been the most comfortable I've had to modify slightly by shortening the straps. I used to always lean towards 3pc ones (RBZ, Jetspeed) but my 2 favorites are now both 2pc (19k, Super Tacks). Just go try as many on as possible.

True (bolt) runners dead, what to switch to?
xstartxtodayx replied to Malarowski's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I've been using XS for the past almost 3 years and love them. Had Edge holders before and had to repair the trigger twice even though I rarely used it, also I'm on Step which isn't produced for Edge anymore so that's always a plus. So my vote would be to look at XS.
