  1. The PP10 shell is a pant shell so that might be too big. Look for PP90 or PP9K (or PPTK), those are the CCM girdle shells, Bauer and Warrior also make similar versions but I'm pretty sure the CCM's are the only ones with the added kidney protection (a thin piece of plastic and thin padding on each side). I've only had a pro stock Super Tacks shell and it didn't offer any additional padding that I saw unless they mean the little soft padding around the belt. Warrior has some nice pro stocks shells that can be found on Hockey Monkey, or just browse classifieds/sidelineswap/ebay for various pro stock shells (warning, it can be addicting lol).
  2. With the Super Tacks the waist is just smaller than a usual medium but the issue I notice most with the sizing is they feel shorter (I have the leg pads adjusted down quite a ways) and also the thigh pads seem as if they're made for toothpick legs. I'm pretty skinny, no one has ever accused me of having big legs, quite the opposite actually, and the thigh straps are at their loosest for me to use them. My old 9K's had the straps all the way over and wouldn't even be close to stretching, but the Tacks straps barely reach and are tight at that point, it's the oddest thing. For the record, I am 5'9" and about 165-170 with about a 32" waist, medium works for me but if I had muscular legs it probably wouldn't work. OP: if you look on s2k there was someone selling a pair of 7092's in medium for really cheap, worth a look.
  3. From my limited experience, the most protective girdle I've had is the Super Tacks girdle. It has great tailbone and hip coverage as well as kidney and spine protection plus it's pretty light and mobile. Previously I've used the 9K girdle which I loved but the Tacks offers better protection, before that I had a Bauer One.8 which I couldn't stand... this one was more of a wrap than a girdle and it never felt like it was on right, also the protection in this model was lighter weight and limited esp in the tail area. Prior to that I had an old Easton Synergy one from the early 00's which wasn't bad but didn't have as much coverage as the Tacks, and before that I had an old Cooper one in the 90's which didn't do a whole lot lol. As for sizing, most girdles I'd say try a medium but if you're interested in the Tacks I would go for a large, they run VERY small for some odd reason. They also have a Tacks model one step down that offers very similar protection, I think there might be a LTR of that one in the reviews section, I remember reading about it when I was considering the Super Tacks.
  4. I'm not a fan of Elite either, I've been using Howies waxed the past while and have been happy. I tend to run laces as long as I can because I hate breaking in new laces... you know those first handful of times where the laces just don't have the right stretch or give to them? Or am I alone in this lace break in thing?
  5. I had Louisville's I believe back in HS, they were the same as the orange Easton Donzi's but different colors and branding (my friend had those)... they were absolute tanks! I didn't feel anything but also could hardly move.
  6. I'd go with the PP9K, it has the added kidney protection and also has velcro tabs if you were so inclined to attach it to the girdle so you couldn't easily remove it (not sure why this is a thing but some people like that).
  7. Awesome, thanks guys! I'll just keep my eyes open for all the details 😄
  8. Nice! I just wasn't sure how it all went, I'd love to make the most of it and meet some people and have some fun, just gotta make sure I keep things in budget. Is there, or will there be a certain hotel everyone stays at or anything? I know there's a lot of sketchy areas in Newark so want to make sure I don't book the wrong place 🤣
  9. I've been interested in attending for a long time and this summer is looking like I'll finally get my wish. Can anyone describe the day's events? Is it worth getting a hotel room for the night before or of?
  10. Not entirely sure what, if any, differences there are between the two. I always assumed it was just a name change when RBK dropped out of the branding and it was then all CCM. I've owned both models and nothing jumped out at me as being different.
  11. The PP10 is a pant shell so that would prob be huge, I'd stick with a PP90 or PP9k, both basically the same thing. I find those two slightly roomier than the PPTK shell (the newer tacks shell) since the new one seems to be a little more streamlined. You can also use the Warrior ones, HockeyMonkey has a bunch of pro stock ones and they're slightly roomier than the CCM shells. I'd try a different model shell in the same size before going up a size since you might be swimming in a larger size (I wear medium Tacks and 9K girdles and mainly use medium shells, PP90, PP9K, and Warrior, but also have a PPTK in a small that fits with the length extended all the way but is slightly more slim than I prefer).
  12. I agree with the guy up above with the awesome username and how elbows are very tricky because there really isn't much of a sizing guideline. I wore smalls for years because they always fit around my arms the best, but they were always too short and sometimes the elbow cap wasn't a great fit. My issue is I have skinny arms, so what I've done recently is buy a medium (currently in Tacks since the jdp cap fits so well) but I modified the straps by folding them back on themselves and sewing them to shorten them up giving me a perfect fit.
  13. Iceworks in Syosset... one of 3 practice rinks the Islanders are paying for 🤣
  14. yes, there are a couple maybe a few tat still use that old school cap. Spittin Chiclets had Duncan Keith on a while back and he was talking about his skates and how anal he is with them, he still gets the old school cap on his.
  15. A couple from a game last week. I was lucky enough to have a teammate, who is getting pretty good at photography, handle my camera while I was playing (and since she is recovering from foot surgery she didn't have a choice 😆).
  16. I agree with the above... try a slightly shallower ROH first, 5/8" isn't that much of a change but it should feel a little different, give it a skate or two and see what you think. Then if you want to play with profiles I'd suggest reading up in the Prosharp Project area on this site, there's a TON of info in there to digest but it might give you a better understanding. I went to my local Pure Hockey since I have a couple of friends who work there, they have a Prosharp machine and offer profiling so I experimented a little. I felt a difference with the first profile they gave me but it didn't feel right so we tried another one, the second one was great and it allowed me to go even shallower with my ROH (3/4" now from 5/8") which also made a difference (something about more steel on the ice allowing more shallow profile for more glide). So maybe go talk to your local shop if they offer profiling and start playing around.
  17. For skates, go try on some CCM Ribcor's. If they fit your foot they might be just what you're looking for since they're more flexible than most of the modern skates. I had Supreme One75's and then Vapor X700's and loved how light they were compared to older boots but never adapted to the added stiffness (before those I was in Graf 705's from the late 90's). Last year I decided to give the Ribcor's a try and fell in love instantly with the 78K model, it had more of a feel and flex like the older style boots but was lightweight like the modern stuff, a win-win for me.
  18. There's one review that's not too positive, I could've sworn I've seen others but can't find them right now:
  19. The .5 was very minimal adjustment, it just felt natural. I did try a Quad 1 at first but that felt very short up front which I didn't care for, so that lead me to the .5 and I've been happy ever since.
  20. I'm currently in pro stock Jofa 5090's and LOVE them, they're so much more comfortable and protective than my older pads. The biggest difference for me is the liner... the Jofa has the old school thick padded liner that actually cushions, especially around the knee. Previously I had Super Tacks (the gen before AS1) and they were really disappointing... the liners were basically useless, super thin with very little padding, and the fancy D30 inserts were only relevant if you fell/got hit directly on that spot (the knee had a tiny area right dead center, so if you got tripped up and the main impact was on the upper portion of the knee cap the D30 did nothing, nor did the liner... ask me how I know), also I found the protection towards the edges of the plastic rather minimal so if you took a shot from a slight angle and it didn't hit the plastic head on you'd really feel it, this was surprising since older lower end shin guards I'd never feel these impacts with. So from my experience, look for an older set of pro stock shins with the thicker foam padding, something like Jofa 5090's or RBK 8K pro's, many models similar to those will offer far more protection than the modern models.
  21. When I profiled mine I went from 5/8 to 3/4 and it felt great. I was originally on stock 10' radius and am now on quad .5 . The explanation I got was that with the quad profile you'll have more steel on the ice at any given time so you don't need as much bite with the hollow to get the same grip (disclaimer: I'm not an expert on the technical stuff, that's just the way it was explained to me and honestly the shallower hollow has not felt like it has any less bite than my old hollow on non profiled steel).
  22. So this explains the survey I took for CCM last week... it was all about shopping for skates and what sort of promotional offers I'd find appealing, they kept pushing the "would a free upgraded blade offer make you more interested in CCM skates?" but phrased in like 5 different ways. So maybe they'll offer a Step Steel package for new skate buyers til they phase in the steel on whatever skates they'll be using them? Either way, sounds like a good deal for CCM, just wish I waited because maybe I could've saved some money before buying my blades separately after picking up new Ribcors a few months back.
  23. Is the shin guard sitting away from your shin because they're too narrow? I've had a variety of shin guards over the past 5+ years (Super Tacks, Vapor X900, U+ CS, RBK 14k, etc) and most have really thin (almost pointless) liners so I can't see how a liner would create a fit issue (I now have Jofa 5090 pro stocks with the nice thick foam liner that actually provides cushioning unlike any of my previous pairs). If it is a width thing maybe try a heat gun and open the plastic up a little wider? I remember Craig Ludwig infamously took that to the extreme back in the 90's but a little extra width might do the trick if that is in fact the issue.
  24. reminds me of this old Simpsons scene when Homer is shopping for a new TV at the outlet store:
  25. I had a 310 for a week but it didn't fit my head, it was too square especially in the front. It felt good at first but then 5 minutes into the game I'd have a lot of pain no matter how I adjusted it, I guess my head is just too oval for it. I guess once you find that helmet that's just the right shape for you it's the one you keep coming back to.
